A fincan is a small coffee cup, holding a volume of 2-3 fl ounces (60-90 mL), dating back to 1400 AD in Turkey. It does not have a handle.

A zarf is a holder for the fincan. It has three purposes. It protects the fincan. A zarf is made of stronger materials than the delicate fincan. It prevents the hot coffee and hot fincan from burning your fingers. Because it surrounds the fincan, it has a more decorative nature and may contain engraving or gemstones.
